Infection Status of the Moroco oxycephalus(BLEEKER) with the Metacercariae of Echinostoma hortense Asada, 1926 in Seoum River

Abstract
The infection status of the Moroco oxycephalus with the metacercariae of Echinostoma hortense was studied in Seoum river. A total 303 M. oxycephalus caught at six areas(Oksan-ri, Munmark-ri, Botong-ri, Mushil-dong, Dangu-dong, Kwanshul-dong) were examined their infection rate as well as the density and location of the metacercariae in the fish body.
The results are as follows:
1. The M. oxycephalus carrying the metacercariae of E. hortense were 9(3.0%) in total number and the metacercarial density ranged 2-6 per infected M. oxycephalus with an average value of 3.8.
2. The metacercariae of E. hortense were chiefly distributed in the perianal tissue and distal intestinal wall, and the proximal intestinal wall, and the muscle, and the head and gill of the At. oxycephalus examined.
3. The average size of metacercariae was 149.4¡¿146.6/§. Also, it was uniquely specific that thickened membrane was formed around the metacercarial cyst wall.
From the results, it is concluded that the M.oxycephalus is one of the important second intermediate hosts of E. hortense in Korea.
